This summer, over a million soccer fans are flooding New Jersey for the World Cup—but the real sudden-death drama is happening right here on the comedy stage.
Welcome to the World Cup of Comedy, the biggest, highest-stakes tournament in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut comedy scene. We’ve scouted the funniest and sharpest comedians from the region and thrown them into a brutal, World Cup-style Round of 32 showdown.
This show is the Group C Qualifier. Eight comics will enter the stage. After a ruthless gauntlet of head-to-head standup matches, only two will survive to advance to the massive Finals Show on July 9th at the Liberty Science Center.
How the Match Dynamics Work
This isn’t your average comedy show. This is rapid-fire, high-pressure, tactical standup competition:
The 3-minute Blitz: Comics go head-to-head in sudden-death pairs. Each comic gets exactly 3 minutes to deliver their best material.
The Comic Panel: A panel of comedian judges will break down the sets and deliver savage, hilarious feedback after each match.
The VAR (Voice of Audience Resounding): The judges can talk all they want, but the audience’s applause determines who advances. If there’s a dead tie, the judges' panel will break it. Your voice literally decides who stays and who goes home.
The Road to the Finals
The stakes couldn't be higher. The two surviving comics from this show's Group C Qualifier will punch their ticket to the Finals Show on July 9th at 8:00 PM, performing inside the iconic, 300-seat JDW Theater at the Liberty Science Center After Dark.
They’ll be competing for ultimate bragging rights, cash prizes, and a coveted 2026 residency with 6th Borough Comedy x LSC After-Dark.
